Serial Imagery
During an art fair in Roanoke, Virginia, I had a few free moments to stand back and look at the display in my tent. As I watched people come and go, I realized a few photographs repeatedly captured their attention. I saw they had a common theme -- Serial Imagery. Each had a repeated pattern or motif, like refrigerator magnets or vintage wooden blocks. The sources are interesting — the air scents were part of a monumental wall photographed at the Venice Architecture Biennale. The bowling patches were in a scrapbook, a gift from my wife purchased at a Miami Beach vintage shop. The chopsticks are from my collection, shot in the studio. I have also been given collections — the cocktail umbrellas from Mike and a visitor to a Norfolk art fair gave me a collection of lures, thinking I could turn them into something interesting. And who knew what bicycles could really look like! It seems then, serial imagery has earned its own gallery.
