Japan & Thailand
These photographs were taken during a single trip in 2016 — first to Chang Mail, Thailand and then to Kyoto, Japan. Each segment involved several side excursions to neighboring towns and intriguing sites. At Sanjūsongen-dō - Temple of 1,000 Buddhas - we thought we saw Anthony Bourdain.

The process of digital manipulation to adjust color, line, shape, form and composition is really in evidence here in the Asian pictures. For example, the two images of the Torii Gate in Lake Biwa is the same digital original; variations in the saturation and filters create the impression of different times of day. Similarly, the two horizontal images of bamboo from the Arashiyama Grove are also the same original image, manipulated to enhance color and alter light. Torii Dreams was originally an image of many small torii gates laying on stone steps. Here manipulation has gone to the extreme to create an ethereal image with abstract elements..
