It was a surprise to me how the city and its environs translated so well to halftone, that is, black-and-white. Sometimes clarity of light makes it all work; in others, a soft fog creates the mood, as in the Huey P Long Bridge image below. Comparing black-and-white and color versions of the same picture is fascinating, as seen in two versions of the spillway above New Orleans. When open, it allows Mississippi River flood waters to follow the spillway to Lake Pontchartrain, protecting Greater New Orleans. These two images have completely different character.
